What Is CrossFit?

Let Me Tell You About CrossFit

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program. We have designed our program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialised program but a deliberate attempt to optimise physical competence in each of ten recognised fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

Is CrossFit For Me?

Do you want to feel amazing? Look awesome all year round? Regain control of your sleep? Eat well and enjoy your social life? Be more flexible? Increase your fitness levels? And, finally lose that dreaded body fat? Well, yes, CrossFit is for you, your friends, your better halves, your parents, and everyone else you know. CrossFit allows the first-timer to complete an identical workout (WOD) to an elite athlete. We do this by scaling (Rx) our workouts to your ability, mobility and experience. You will learn, re-learn and perfect movements you perform unconsciously everyday enabling you to lead a happier, more effective lifestyle.

Our Programs

Our Foundation sessions have been specifically designed to teach you the 9 fundamental movements of CrossFit. Not only that you are introduced to the methodology of the program, learn to understand what CrossFit is and taste the feeling of what a WOD actually feels like. At CrossFit Buxton you are required to complete a minimum of 6 Foundation classes to ensure your technique is safe and efficient to take part in our main CrossFit workouts.

Olympic lifts play a vital role in development during the CrossFit programme. The movements that are taught in these classes reflect actions we may perform in everyday life and they serve as the next stage in functional movement, progressing on to further specialised coaching in strength and conditioning. Adam is a member of the British Weightlifting Association and qualified to teach olympic lifts. At CrossFit Buxton we teach these techniques in small groups to emphasise the importance of technique and safety for every lifter. Olympic lifting is comprised of the Clean & Jerk and the Snatch, these movements in turn develop all over body strength, flexibility, power and speed and require regular practice.

At CrossFit Buxton we also offer one to one CrossFit sessions. So if you are wanting to work specifically on your personal weaknesses or struggling to master certain movements then these sessions are a great way of speeding up your progress to regionals..... You just never know.

"Shaun and Adam have created something incredible at Crossfit Buxton. The gains in strength and fitness I've seen since joining are 100% thanks to their skills as coaches and inclusive yet constantly challenging atmosphere at this great venue"Ian Fisher | Data Scientist

"I started with Crossfit Buxton almost exactly a year ago at 50 years old. Unsure what to expect, but now so glad I started my Crossfit Journey. Adam and Shaun, the coaches make sure you learn the techniques properly before pushing you at the level you can cope with and a bit harder. The community feeling and competitive work outs encourage and push you to be your best and I'm now fitter and stronger than I've ever been. I love it and I'm sure you will to, if you want to feel and look great."David Doig | Practice Manager and Performance Mind Coach. 51 years young

"Most people who have something negative to say about CrossFit have never been and I used to be one of them! After deciding to give it a go I can honestly say I wish I'd joined sooner! Cheesy as it sounds, the coaches make the sessions fun and are always on hand to give advice and help you improve."Kate Bentley | Student

"I love going to CrossFit Buxton for the challenging and varied workouts, for the attentive and quality coaching and for the amazing community spirit. From the moment that I step through the door to the final cool down stretch, I've usually got a huge smile on my face. Adam and Shaun are awesome coaches, pushing me to do better than I ever could on my own in the gym whilst making sure my technique is spot on (and displaying endless patience as they demonstrate a basic skill for the millionth time). The weekly programming means that every day throws up a different challenge, whether it's mastering a new skill like pull-ups or trying to better a previous record on the rower. I love being able to follow my progress over the weeks and months but also seeing everyone else get better too. There is a real team spirit which is evident in every session with other members encouraging you to push for a new personal record in weightlifting as well as willing and cheering you on to the finish of a workout. CrossFit Buxton has had a massive impact on my life, promoting a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise whilst improving my fitness and self esteem and introducing me to a whole new group of people to train with, laugh with and share the odd cocktail or two with too."Morag Sheridan | Sports Physiotherapist
